I made this short as I was recovering from surgery for a broken tibia, fibula and ankle. One metal rod and four screws later, I found myself in the process of having to re-learn to walk again. My months of convalesce and pain led to more moments of pure joy and accomplishment than I would have ever expected. It was a real “blessing in a curse” to have so much quiet time to get lost in fantasy.
I filmed Cello Dream entirely on my iPhone, wearing an ankle boot and using crutches to get around. The physicality of pulling it off was for me, a huge milestone. My friend Patrick Belaga, an enormously talented cellist (listen to his solo album “Groundswell” here) improvised the score one sunny afternoon in the garden.
